Joe Russo’s Extraction is a story about an Indian drug lord’s kid who is named after his father, Ovi Mahajan. The kid is kidnapped by a rival who runs a drug cartel in Bangladesh. Extraction is an adapted version of the 2014 graphic novel Ciudad that Russo Brothers had co- written with Ande Parks. Tyler Rake played by Chris Hemsworth is a black market mercenary who has been employed to extract the boy.
The story starts with Ovi’s kidnapping and then we see a conversation between Pankaj Tripathi as Ovi Mahajan and Randeep Hooda as Saju who works for him. The extraction takes place at Dhaka, Bangladesh. Tyler is a stereotypical good bad guy,who has been turmoiled by his past. Basically he has lost hope in life since he lost his 6 year old son.
Randeep Hooda on the other hand plays his foil, a kingpin deputy who out of love for his family goes to lengths that no sane man would think of. The nonstop fist-on-fist fight scenes are far different than anything he’s done before. David Harbour also appears briefly, adding to the film’s lineup.
The the writer/director brother duo behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame have definitely did justice to the story. Though this is an action thriller there are a couple of mind intriguing moments. There is an equally important touch of emotional moments too. Rudraksh jaiswal has done a commendable job.
The beauty of the movie is its emotional heart. Though the movie is brimmed to the top with action sequels which have been shot flawlessly, you will definitely be touched by the little emotional instances. The root of all the action is emotion which makes it way more appealing.
As spectacularly as its been shot, Hemsworth has done complete justice to the role. Chris hemsworth up against bloody gun fights, knockouts , car chases, wreckages and other action set pieces is oddly satisfying to watch. Seeing that 12 minute chase scene designed to look like a single take is mesmerising .
For one thing, action fans are going to fall in love. The film surely delivers a solid dose of nearly non-stop fight sequences that are satisfying to watch. We did expect a little more of Pankaj Tripathi though.
