What does being in a relationship feel like? Love, relations, marriages all give a meaning to your life. But what if the quest of giving a meaning to life makes your existence rather meaningless.A relationship without consent is what makes life nugatory. Here is a much needed piece on Relationships & Consent.
What is consent?
Consent is when a person agrees or gives permission to another person to be involved in any kind of activity. It means agreeing to an action based on your knowledge of what that action involves; its possible consequences and having the option of saying no. The term consent in a relationship stands for sexual consent.
Relationships & Consent
Before being physically intimate with someone the most important and inevitable step is asking for consent. Any sort of commitment does not blur the need for consent. Though you are married, been in a relation for a couple of years, been friends for long, dating fro a while. Being physically intimate is a choice and should not be forced on either of you.
Guys need to stop assuming that dressing sexy, flirting, accepting a ride, accepting a drink etc is in any way consenting to anything more.Saying yes or saying absolutely nothing while under the influence of drugs or alcohol can also not be considered as consent. Girls you are consenting to a particular thing only if you do not feel too pressured or too afraid to say no.
In a healthy relationship, it’s important to discuss and respect each other’s boundaries on the regular. You can’t assume that being consensual once means they will agree to anything anytime in the future as well. Whether it’s the first time or the hundredth time, a hookup, a committed relationship or even marriage, nobody is ever obligated to consent to something, even if they’ve done it in the past. A person can decide to stop an activity at any time, even if they agreed to it earlier.
Everyone has a right to their own body and to feel comfortable with how they use it.
