Janta Curfew : Stay Home, Stay Safe

On friday evening Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed  Indian citizens to practise  Janta Curfew on sunday as a control measure for COVID 19. According to WHO,”Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).”

Cluster cases affected by coronavirus were first reported by China in  december 2019. Since then the pandemic has been spreading like anything. The condition now is very unstable and might lead to a medical catastrophe. According to a report by WHO the worldwide death toll is 9840 as of now.

The Indian government has appealed for a Janta curfew for the betterment of its citizens. The virus as fast as it spreads, goes from an infected person to a whole community. The next two weeks are very crucial. To rephrase, if we are careless now, this disease will undoubtedly ruin the nation.

Hats off to all the doctors, rescue teams, police and health and sanitation officers. As responsible citizens we should practice social distancing. In the first place, stop stepping out. Avoid eating or drinking in bars, restaurants, and food courts. Thereafter avoid crowded places as much as you can.

Why should we support Janta Curfew ?

The unprecedented scale at which the number of people infected is increasing won’t stop if we don’t. Repeating it again, Social distancing is the only possible way to control this situation. Call it Quarantine, call it isolation, unquestionably these are the only measures we can take at the moment.

Oxford defines quarantine as “a state, period, or place of isolation in which people or animals that have arrived from elsewhere or been exposed to infectious or contagious disease are placed.”

As a matter of fact the situation can still be controlled. Therefore it is high time we stop taking this so lightly. Presently Support Janta Curfew. Pledge to not step out starting 7am tomorrow. At this time,  we should rather avoid going out and stay grounded for more than a day.

Symptoms

The Common signs of infection generally  include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

Prevention

Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include the following

  1. Regular hand washing
  2. Wear masks in public and avoid big crowds
  3. Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing.Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
  4. Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of the government
  5. Adapt to safer greeting methods, Nod, wave , bow or just our classic Namaste. Avoid shaking hands so as to refrain from infection.

Together we can all fight against COVID19. Some of the infected cases have been running and violating regulations. The best way out definately is’nt that. This is’nt just a case of utter stupidity but also these people are putting millions of lives at stake.On the positive side it  must be remembered that COVID19 is curable.To put it another way please get yourself treated. Lastly please take all the necessary precautions. To end that the only thing I want to say again is Stay Home, Stay Safe.
