For many people, the concept of self-love is an overblown theory and they often ignore its importance. People aspire to be perfect and perfectionism is considered a greater asset or attribute than self-love.
What Exactly is self love?
Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being just for the sake of pleasing others. The day you realise you are perfect the way you are, you fall in love with yourself. This very day ladies and gentlemen makes you realise your value and you just stop settling for less than what you deserve.
Self Loathing and Self love
When speaking of self love another thing I want to speak of is self loathing. Where Self love, compassion and admiration are the keys to overcome anxiety and depression. Self loathing basically leads to destruction of mental peace. Self-loathing is that underlying feeling that we are just good for nothing. Well its our nature to compare ourselves with others and undermine what we are capable of .We are all ears to our critical inner voice while it scolds and berates us, telling us how embarrassing, stupid, or insensitive we are.
So why is self love important?
Self love is the antidote to self loathing. Thus to curb that negativity we all tend to have for our own selves we badly need to fall for ourselves (pun intended). Each and everyone of us is beautifully flawed its just the time we take to agree to that.
Nobody literally none can be a perfectionist so stop being so harsh on yourself. The first step of self-love is realising that you are human and it is okay to err ; it is okay to lose at times; it is okay to not have the best day…week…or month. All we need to do is love ourselves and let the negative things pass through; eventually things will change and bad times will pass.
How to fall in love with yourself ?
- Firstly, give up on Perfectionism. Putting your best foot forward is what is important. This trait of being unbeatable in everything is definitely not the healthiest choice either. Body image issues, work standards and those ideal jobs, running after all of this won’t help. Vaguely following a trend set up by some of the people around you is that what you believe in? According to a scientific report, Perfectionism has been related to a number of health issues. So my friend the choice is yours.
- Become mindful. People who have more self-love tend to know what they think, feel, and want. Basically have a clarity of what you want for yourself. Do not hesitate to do something or make a decision that makes you happy. People who love themselves are mindful of who they are and act on this knowledge, rather than on what others want for them.
- Protect yourself and set boundaries It will ease out your life is you start setting boundaries. By setting boundaries I mean do not overwork yourself, say no to activities that deplete or harm you physically, emotionally and spiritually. Protect yourself from the type of people you do not get along well with. Try to avoid indulging in any sort of a toxic and demeaning relationship.
- Live intentionally. Have a purpose in life.You will accept and love yourself more, whatever is happening in your life, when you live with purpose and design. Everything does not have tobe crystal clear a rough sketch works as long as you are okay with it. Once you know the destination you start enrouting and find a couple of ways to get there. If your intention is to live a meaningful and healthy life, you will make decisions that support this intention, and feel good about yourself when you succeed in this purpose.
